Aretha Chapman Lead Soprano Aretha has been singing professionally for over 10 years. She performs music from various genres showcasing her powerful vocal ability and amazing range. Aretha is also a songwriter, recording artist, actor and author. She was cast in the movie, “Miles Ahead“, a powerful biopic on Miles Davis that focuses on the musician’s transition into music after a five-year hiatus—otherwise known as his “silent period” starring actor Don Cheadle. She was also cast in the movie “The Last Witch Hunter”, starring actor Vin Diesel and “The Blunderer” starring Jessica Biel and Patrick Wilson. Mira “Raye” Smith Lead Alto Mira “Raye” Smith’s smokey vocal tonality and soulful sound originated in the church as a child singing in local and state choirs as well as school related ensembles. She is also a musician, songwriter, actress, model and media personality. With 6 years of formal piano training under her belt, Mira began to accompany various musical artists and groups which embellished her talent for songwriting. In 2004, Mira won Embassy Music’s Unsigned Artist competition for her song, “Serenade,” in Nashville, TN. Not soon after, she began singing jazz in Cincinnati, OH as a solo artist featured by 2nd Wind. Markay King Lead Tenor 1 Markay started singing at the age of six and began entertaining by the age of eight as a break dancer in one of Cincinnati’s top dance troops, Murder Rock. By age fifteen he began performing Hip-Hop and R&B in a group called Deeper Than Black. Outside of 2nd Wind, Markay is also a member of the national, all-male, R&B group, Public Announcement from Chicago who became the background vocals and dancers for national, R&B artist, R. Kelly during the 1990’s. Some of the group’s top hits are Body Bumpin, John Doe, Mamacita and Man Ain’t Supposed to Cry. Public Announcement’s latest project, Continuation, will be released very soon featuring a song produced by Markay entitled, “Freakin In Da Club”. Vince Stroud Lead Tenor 2 Vince, born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, has been singing since Kindergarden. With his unique vocal styling and energetic footwork he has performed amazing impersonations of legendary vocalists, Jackie Wilson and Louis Armstrong. During his singing career Vince has opened for the national R&B group, Mint Condition, performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra during their 2010 annual holiday production and served as the entertainer for the 2014 Miss Ohio Pageant. Edwin Butler Manager/Keyboardist Born and raised in the small town of New Miami, OH, Edwin has been playing the piano for nearly 40 years. He has functioned as a Minister of Music and Arts for over 15 years. He is currently the chief musician at Life Change Church in Batavia, OH. As the manager and keyboardist for 2nd Wind Band, Edwin handles all bookings, performance schedules, designs stage plots and facilitates the technical expectations of each event. He is also responsible for 2nd Wind’s photography, site design, promotional material, and develops many of the musical presentations for each performance.You can follow Edwin on Facebook.
Jermaine Gentry Drummer Jermaine, a Cincinnati native, began playing drums at the age of two. He has been on music scene his entire life playing in churches, local gospel groups, and for national artists such as Allen & Allen, The DEELE, Robby Bright, Producers Cedric Thompson, John Howcott, Angelo Ray and several others. Jermaine has been employed with Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center where he serves as a Certified Professional Coder, and a two-term Chairman of the African American Professional Advisory Council. He is also a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Humanitarian Award and a 2013 graduate of the Greater Southwestern Ohio Urban League. Jermaine has received a host of honors for his remarkable achievements. Currently, he is obtaining a Bachelors in Business Administration at the University of Cincinnati. Ric Chapman Bassist Ric began playing bass publicly in September of 1969 in the city of Cincinnati where he was born and raised. In his early years, Ric performed regularly alongside his father in a local gospel quartet. Gifted with nearly perfect pitch and solid bass methodology, he has had the opportunity to play for several national artists such as Yolanda Adams, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Allen & Allen, Daryl Coley, Marvin Sapp, Ronnie Laws, Christopher Williams, and a host of other notable artists. Ric is also very skilled on lead guitar as well and has played guitar for several groups. Although very passionate about his music, Ric has very strong family values and takes pride in growing as a loving husband and father.
Tim Essex Percussionist Tim, a native of Cincinnati, OH spent most of his youth in Oakland, CA where he began playing percussion in the sixth grade. At a young age Tim began a very strong career in gospel music playing for notable artists such as Walter and Edwin Hawkins. He performed on Vanessa Bell Armstrong’s first recording along with live performances with Daryl Coley, Richard Smallwood, and Kurt Carr. For ten years he toured the United States as well as Jamaica, Italy and England. Currently, Tim is developing a marketing and advertising company.
Dave Robinson Guitarist David was born in Cincinnati, and has been playing guitar for over 40 years. He has spent many years touring around the country and abroad with well known local bands and national acts. David also works as a studio engineer, writer/producer, collaborating with other writers and artists in the area.
DJ Dynomike DJ/Sound Technician Spinning records since the age of 14, Dynomike has been smashing dance floors all over the city! He’s opened for DJ Kid Capri, Solomon Wilcox of ESPN, and other notable celebrities, displaying his craft for countless artist showcases and over 10 years of Karaoke. Dynomike also has a degree in audio/video production and has managed sound for many local events and artists. As a DJ/Engineer for 2nd Wind, he’s the Master of Ceremony, helps manage the audio needs of 2nd Wind, djs during breaks and keeps dead air filled with music.
